Learning, Relearning And Unlearning
Three words we often hear and sometimes use interchangeably are Learning, Relearning, and Unlearning.
But they are not exactly the same.
For me, learning should be continuous and intentional. Every day presents an opportunity to learn- through observation, meaningful conversations, interactions with people, a short video clip, or the pages of a good book.
True learning is transformational. When you genuinely learn something, you evolve. Your perspective shifts. Your actions begin to change.
Relearning is the process of constant reminding. Some truths are not mastered the first time we hear them. They need repetition.
We relearn until the principle becomes embedded in our subconscious, shaping our decisions and influencing our actions positively. It is through relearning that knowledge turns into habit and character.
As we grow and evolve, we often discover that along the journey we have picked up baggage; from our environment, upbringing, associations, and experiences.
Unlearning is the courage to let go of what no longer serves us.
It may be:
• Toxic habits
• Limiting beliefs
• Wrong mindsets
• Unhealthy behaviours
Growth requires that we intentionally drop the baggage so we can move forward lighter and wiser.
The real question then becomes:
How do we consciously apply learning, relearning, and unlearning in our family life, the workplace, our social circles, and our relationships?
True growth is not just about what we know; it is about what we reinforce and what we are willing to release.
What are you currently learning, relearning, or unlearning in this season of your life?
